Our community is better when we work together. We'd like to invite you to join us on one of the following committees. Your assistance and representation will help ensure our neighborhood continues to be a great place for residents and visitors alike.
Beautification committee:
Coordinate with the City Parks Department and fundraise in the neighborhood for opportunities to improve the appearance of the Wornall Street Bridge (Wornall Rd across Brush Creek). Existing planters have faux plants which need to be updated or better maintained. Other beautification efforts could include public area clean-ups or new plantings.
Parking committee:
Coordinate with other interested neighborhoods (such as South Moreland) and meet with our council members and City staff to make sure we proactively address parking before the Streetcar opens and before UMKC further develops the area within our limits. A Parking Benefits District is what we tentatively want to pursue from the City.
Membership recruitment:
We would like to get more neighbors involved and increase our membership to be able to do even more. Participate in this committee and hit the streets through direct outreach to neighbors or through tabling at local events and gatherings to let neighbors know about SPNA.
Safety/neighborhood watch:
Work on efforts to make sure our neighborhood is as safe as possible. Coordinate with our local police beat representative to stay up to date on crime statistics and make recommendations to our neighbors on safe behaviors.
Social:
Bring neighbors together through social events in the neighborhood such as a regular meet up at a neighborhood bar, an activity in Loose Park, or organize a block party.

Association Board
Joining the Association Board is a great way to serve and enjoy your community. We take pride in representing the South Plaza neighborhood in local matters. Board members have an elected position chosen by our SPNA members. Board member positions are staggered two-year terms with 3 expiring one year and 4 the next. July is our annual Board of Directors election. We encourage you to nominate yourself!
